CS Spring Cup Development

The 4playGaming Counter-Strike Spring Cup is currently in production behind the scenes, and we expect to be up and running by the new year.

We are working around the clock to implement industry-leading tournaments/cup functionality into the 4playGaming system. As with all of our services, it will be fully integrated with 4playID and totally free to use.

As this will be the first cup we have hosted, we will be running it on a relatively small scale with an upper limit of 32 entrants. Standard rules such as roundtime 1.75 and c4timer 35 will apply, and all matches will be 5v5. More in-depth details to follow towards the end of the month.

Entry will be open to all teams registered on 4playGaming, but first refusal will be given to the more active teams in our current leagues. XAC Anti-Cheat must be used at all time - failure to do so will result in disqualification.

In the meantime we are searching for possible sponsors to offer prizes, and also a high quality game server provider who are willing to provide us with places to play. If you are interested in either of the above please contact events@4playgaming.com to discuss your proposal.

If you haven't registered with us already then just click Register on the top menu and get your team up and running today ready for the Cup.

:]

A New Season Begins

A new season begins today on 4playGaming along with the debut of Open Challenges. To celebrate we have created a series of Open Challenges against The Official 4playGaming Team, so if you fancy getting some easy points then jump on board and accept one of our matches.

Open Challenges are the new, easy way to arrange matches – you make the rules! Just create a fixture for the date and time that you are available, and anyone can accept it! You can also view and accept the Open Challenges that other teams have created. Of course, you can still arrange fixtures in the original way (Direct Challenges) if you wish.

Wherever you see this button you can accept an Open Challenge:

We hope that this great new feature will make arranging matches much easier, and encourage our teams to be more active. Make sure you’ve got your Steam ID and XAC GUID assigned to your account, and then you can start creating Open Challenges in both team and 1v1 leagues.

Valve: Acquisition Offers Welcome

When we think of take-overs and acquisitions within the gaming industry, it's difficult to sideline the worries surrounding the quality and diversity of future titles.

Vice President of Value, Doug Lombardi, has revealed in an interview with Gamasutra that the company is open to the possibility of an acquisition.

Image

But he was quick to add that they weren't actively seeking a take-over. "By the same token, the company's doing pretty well, and we're really happy with what we're doing. So we'll see. I mean, anything is possible."

Struggling publisher Electronic Arts are likely to be one of the candidates whos ears pricked up when they heard about this news. Lombardi described the relationship between EA and Valve as being "really good".

The risk to the gamer is that continued mergers/acquisitions could harm the industry as a whole, diluting the talent pool and reducing the need for publishers to produce diverse and original content. We hope we speak for everyone when we say we definitely do not want to see a monopoly/oligopoly in the PC games industry.

Team Fortress 2 Reinforcements

The development team behind Team Fortress 2 have revealed that with the next content update there will be some serious environment modifications allowing map developers far more than just a change in aesthetics.

Valve Developer Jakob Jungels tells us: "We're pretty happy with the way our environments have turned out so far, but as we create more and more maps with these achievement packs, we want our level designers to have more to work with in terms of giving their settings a unique look."

Image

There's no doubt in our minds that Valve will be investigating possible new types of gameplay that will be created with the new environments.

Regular Team Fortress 2 gamers will undoubtedly be very pleased with the level of after-sales support Valve continue to provide for this great game.
